This is from a garden overlooking the city of Assissi in Italy.  It’s a small town on the slope of a mountain with the buildings hugging the hill, with an old rock wall surrounding the town.  It’s famous as the home of St. Francis of Assissi, patron saint of the animals.  It was pure heaven to be there.  The place was amazing, the history was just oozing from the streets, buildings & rock walls.  I spent some time there for an art workshop, which was the best thing ever.  I could go on & on about this, more to come later.

I was on the freeway when this amazing light was glowing off the Minneapolis downtown buildings.  I had to chase this vision down to grab the sunset before it was gone.  It was one of those days when it was so cold it hurt to breathe.   I veered off a ramp to find the nearest side street parallel to the freeway with a view of downtown, taking about 25 pics with my cell phone to get the right shot.  Thank God the side streets were pretty empty, cause I was jumping out, taking a few pics, walking down down the street, jumping back into the car then doing it all over again on the other side of the freeway.  Sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do.  Also, I have a nasty habit of taking pics of the scenery when I’m driving.  I swear I’m still paying attention to the road.  Sometimes the view is just too good to pass up.  I’ve got a painting on the back burner of a close up of downtown, from when I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on a curved off ramp bridge.

This was painted in the Walker Art Center’s sculpture garden in Minneapolis.  I was all alone painting away when 6 busloads of school kids came running into the park.  It didn’t take long till I had an audience looking over my shoulder.  Later on I got an email from one of my childhood next door neighbors who I hadn’t seen for years & years.  It turned out one of the boys watching was her son.  What a small world!

Looking towards downtown Minneapolis on a windy summer day.  I was sitting on a picnic table with my little portable paint box.  It was a beautiful day with tons of people out.  There were walkers, runners, bikers, kayakers, & of course the wind surfers.
